FEMKE COLARIS

(Maastricht, Netherlands, 1985)

Femke Colaris is a Berlin based artist. Graduated from the University of Fine Arts in Maastricht, she works primarily with mixed media collage and drawing. Femke’s work is characterized by an intuitive approach to aesthetics, a wandering hand and sometimes unexpected compositions. With a focus on textures and colors, her work signals a return to the basic, where the appearance aims to be experimental but timeless. Femke uses time honored, slow processes to source and to collect her material. She uses found papers from archi- val magazines, paper scraps, and other discarded material, – some of them are up to 100 years old. The papers used are affected by their past, and with all its spots and stains, colored gradients and imperfections, every single piece is unique.
